WHAT WE TEACH

Jiu-Jitsu, often referred to as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), is a martial art and combat sport focused on the principles of  ground fighting and submission grappling, and standing self defense through distance management and mitigating an opponent’s ability to effectively strike or control in the event of an altercation. It emphasizes the ability to control and submit an opponent using various techniques such as joint locks and chokeholds. BJJ was developed in Brazil by the Gracie family in the early 20th century, and is based on the techniques of traditional Japanese Jujutsu, Judo techniques and the fundemental principles of wrestling.

The core principle of Jiu-Jitsu is focused on the concepts of leverage, technique, and strategy rather than relying on brute strength and striking alone. BJJ practitioners train to defend against and control opponents in different positions, including guard, side control, mount, and back control, making it highly effective for self-defense, sport, and mixed martial arts (MMA).

Our academy is focused on gi-based Jiu-Jitsu,  for sport and self defense. We also emphasize the benefits of training as an effective means for physical fitness, stress reduction, while building confidence and character in our students.
