MATTHEW MILLER

Hello! My name is Matthew Miller, head coach and founder of Saline Jiu-Jitsu. My jiu-jitsu journey began in the early 2000’s at a time when Brazilian jiu-jitsu was still establishing its roots in the US, just 10 years after Royce Gracie’s victorious debut in the first UFC in 1993. I was fortunate to find a gym in Plymouth Michigan and started training under Michigan’s first Brazilian Jiu-JItsu black belt, Ryan Fiorenzi at East West Martial Arts. I continued training with Ryan, as well as Tyrone Gooden at East West for several years and was promoted to purple belt by Professor Tyrone. After taking some time off in 2010, I resumed training in my home town at Monroe Jiu-Jitsu in 2017 with Professor Todd Williams, a fourth degree black belt under legendary coral belt, Luiz Palhares. On December 5th, 2022, I recieved my black belt at Monroe Jiu-Jitsu from Professor Todd.
My favorite aspect of jiu-jitsu is seeing the rewards of training, the lasting impact it has on its practitioners, and the people I have met and had the priveledge of training with over the years. I consider jiu-jitsu to be a beacon for anyone looking to find a worthwhile and rewarding endeavour that strengthens mind, body, and spirit.
My goal is simple. I am committed to share this martial art with as many people as possible, hoping to give to them what jiu-jitsu has given to me over the years. Hope to see you on the mats!
